The stakeholders committed to the Censo approach

Censo is an approach initiated by the lavender and lavandin essential oils sector. Specifications have been drafted for the three categories of operators:

• farms,
• distilleries,
• agricultural cooperatives  and first marketers.

For an essential oil to be in compliance with the Censo approach, each operator must sign a commitment to the Censo approach and meet the requirements of the specifications.

A steering committee decides on the orientations to be taken for this approach.

Farms

They are located in the French lavender and lavandin production area, that is to say essentially in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, the Drôme and the Vaucluse.

For the 2010 campaign, 42 producers were in compliance with the Censo approach: 22 in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, 13 in the Drôme, 6 in the Vaucluse and 1 in the Hautes-Alpes.

In October 2011, 61 farms signed their commitment to the Censo approach.

The distilleries which make the extraction of the essential oil possible are of two types: cooperative or private. Distillation can be carried out in two different ways: in trailers or in vats.

In October 2011, there are 37 distilleries committed to the Censo approach : 14 in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, 13 in the Drôme, 9 in the Vaucluse et 1 in the Hautes-Alpes.

Cooperatives

For the 2011 campaign, the following cooperatives are committed to the Censo approach:

SCA Plantes à Parfum de Provence (SCA3P)

SCA Plantes à Parfum de Provence is a cooperative marketing the production of its members located in Haute-Provence.

SCA Parfum Provence Ventoux (PPV)

SCA Parfum Provence Ventoux is a cooperative marketing the production of its 145 members on French and international markets.

France Lavande

France Lavande covers around 100 perfume, aromatic and medicinal plant producers spread over the 4 departments in Provence. The main productions are essential oils of lavender, lavandin and other aromatic plants, dried flowers, bouquets of lavender/lavandin, linden flowers and herbes de Provence.

SCA Distillerie de l'Enclave des Papes

SCA Distillerie de l'Enclave des Papes id a cooperative located in Vaucluse which produces essential oils of Grosso, Abrial, Super lavandin and Maillette lavender.
